Dead or Alive 5 Review

Dead or Alive 5 is the iconic fighting series from producers Team Ninja, who are also the minds behind the incredibly frustrating and rage-inducing Ninja Gaiden series.

It has been nearly five/six years since Dead or Alive 4, and during the long wait we have been presented with a masterpiece of a fighting franchise once again. DOA5 has unhooked the leash on the boundaries of what fighting games can offer, with a vast improvement in seamless graphical details, combination attacks, and constantly transforming environments. Team Ninja have definitely put a lot of time and dedication into the creation of this instalment and have released something that all fans of the Dead or Alive series will love, old and new.

The gaming mechanics have seem a massive improvement with the advantages of the Three-point Triangle System, which allows players to always get out of desperate and troubling situations such as long combo attacks or moments where you’re about to pushed off a mountain peak. You can also use the stage’s environments to help you in the battle with trigger events that allow players to push their opponent’s into danger zones such as explosive barrels, electric fences, or send them flying into a new stage area from the top of a construction building to down into the chaotic streets of Tokyo.

The details in the characters have also seen a vast improvement. Compared to the art style of DOA4, DOA5 has been given a new face with realistic details and beautiful colouring, along with the extra effort of including sweat and dirt details during fights.

Dead or Alive 5 has rapidly become popular amongst millions of players around the world, and competitions have already been hosted between fighters from across the globe. The revamped fighting system has now allowed all players to get a fair fight during their challenges, especially against the AI system (who was the cause for many angry screams and broken controllers). Dead or Alive 5 has raised the bar on the Beat ‘Em Up genre, and is definitely one to buy!

So, what are you waiting for? Clench those fists and show the world your strength!
