Christian is back once more with an anime review. Today he is looking at Acchi Kocchi, the last shoujo, before we move on to a different genre for a while.
Acchi Kocchi follows Tsukimi Miniwa as she pursues her stoic and apparently clueless love interest Io Otonashi. Her shyness and his inability to realise her feelings for him provide endless fun for their friends as they try, in vain, to get the two of them together.
Each episode is split into two separate stories, giving you two for the price of one every time you watch it. Each of these segments are episodic and can therefore be watched at ones leisure. Each individual story pieces together into one complete image and, whilst completely separate, form together into one complete viewing experience.
Io seems to be the go to guy for pretty much anything and seems to have the ability to say everything that can make a girl fawn over him, yet seems to take no interest in them in a romantic sense. This leads to many a situation where Tsukimi embarrasses herself due to his natural attractiveness and her inability to keep her feelings from surfacing, for example being jealous of cats spending time with him…
Acchi Kocchi has a knack for being able to shift from cute and sweet to absolutely hilarious in the blink of an eye and it is this which makes it so fun to watch.
I may have enjoyed it more than others due to the fact that I could see similarities in the main characters and myself and my girlfriend, however I believe that this series is not something that can be brushed aside, it is fantastic throughout and wonderfully paced, never leaving you feeling bored and constantly keeping you on your toes.
Cute, hilarious and downright fun, Acchi Kocchi is a must watch for those with a love for romance and situations that you simply can’t not laugh at.
