Eurogamer 2012 – Crysis 3

Crysis, the game series which has been known for it’s stunning graphics, well designed gameplay and deep sci-fi story. With the success of Crysis 2 it was only time until Crysis 3 was announced to the world. This was met with mix views by fans and media alike with an odd choice to go back once again, to New York city. But as a big fan of the series, I had high hopes for Crysis 3 and couldn’t wait to get hands on at eurogamer.

For one, Crysis 3 was only showing he multi-player side of the game at Eurogamer. This isn’t much of an issue but it’s hard to make a first impression of a game which is so story driven when you can only battle online. Of course that is me nitpicking, so let’s leave that aside. The question we need to ask here is does Crysis 3 not only look good but does it play good?

Right off the bat I can say I’m let down by the graphics and overall feel of the game. It could be that the demos are of course not showing a finished product. However with a game known for graphics you would think they would show them off, no? The multi-player had similar gameplay and graphics as the Crysis 2 multi-player. The old saying of “If it ain’t broke don’t break it” is key here but when you make a follow up game for a big series, you would hope for a little more.

It’s not all bad however, I’m happy to say. The new hunter mode is a fan and enjoyable, that is fact. Chasing players down and picking them off one by one is a great experience and even more enjoyable if you can do it without them seeing you take even one down. Of course, as with any gaming session I failed horribly. As for the rest of multi-player its the same as before with unlocks, loadouts, scoring and more. It’s the same old elements which, for me at least, is the problem.

Overall, Crysis 3 at Eurogamer wasn’t a total let down but it did fail to impress me. Crysis 3 will still be a great game and I can’t wait to play the single player. The multi-player is something to be questioned. Sure it works and is a somewhat fun but with a lack of overall new features it’s very much a copy and paste job.

Crysis 3 is out next year and is worth the play. If you liked the last game, like myself, then the single player will be great. However, I can happily say I won’t be buying Crysis 3 for the online.
