Films of 2012 – part 1

As you may recall from our last article about films, we said we were going to list some of the films that you should be looking forward to this year. This won’t be a ‘Top 5’ list but rather, a month by month view on some of the top films we think you should be looking forward too over the next year.

So, let’s jump right in to part 1.

Update: Part two is out now : link

January ~

Haywire ~ ‘A black ops super soldier seeks payback after she is betrayed and set up during a mission’.

Reason: With elements of ‘Bourne’, ‘Haywire’ looks like a fantastic “agent seeking revenge for being betrayed by employers” film, with the butt kicking main character being a woman this time! With the likes of Michael Fassbender and Ewan McGregor, this film should not disappoint!

Underworld: Awakening ~ ‘When human forces discover the existence of the Vampire and Lycan clans, a war to eradicate both species commences. The vampire warrioress Selene leads the battle against humankind’.

Reason: Although not having seen the third instalment of Underworld, I must say, I have enjoyed the other films! And this looks like a very interesting update to the franchise. My only worry is that it will repeat the mistakes of the last Resi film and become a 3-D over the top film!

The Grey ~ ‘In Alaska, an oil drilling team struggle to survive after a plane crash strands them in the wild. Hunting the humans are a pack of wolves who see them as intruders.

Reason: Its LIAM NEESON VS WOLVES, what else do you want?

February ~

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance ~ ‘As Johnny Blaze hides out in Eastern Europe, he is called upon to stop the devil, who is trying to take human form’.

Reason: I loved the original film and I do love a good Nicolas Cage film so I can’t wait to see this. Last time it was the devils son. This time, its the devil himself! Plus, Blaze has an awesome motorcycle!

March ~

The Hunger Games ~ ‘Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister’s place for the latest match.’

Reason: If you have read the books, you will be super excited about this film. I cannot wait to see Katniss and Peeta bought to life, their struggles and torment portrayed on the big screen. This is not Battle Royale!

The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists ~ ‘Pirate Captain sets out on a mission to defeat his rivals Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz for the Pirate of the Year award. The quest takes Captain and his crew from the shores of Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London.’

Reason: Two words: Aardman Animations. The creators of Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit, bring us Pirates!

April ~

The Avengers ~ ‘Nick Fury and the international agency S.H.I.E.L.D bring together a team of super humans to form The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki and his various membered army’

Reason: Iron Man, Black Widow, Captain America, Thor, Hulk. And of course, Samual L Jackson as Nick Fury! Do I need to say anything else?

Battleship ~ ‘ A fleet of ships is forced to do battle with an armada of unknown origins in order to discover and thwart their destructive goals.’

Reason: From the creators of Transformers, you have another brilliant film of changing mechanical beings, aliens and humans beings fighting for survival. You can’t beat that soul shaking noise they make.

May ~

Men in Black III ~ ‘Agent J travels in time to MIB’s early years in the 1960’s, to stop an alien from assassinating his friend, Agent K and changing history.’

Reason: Men in Black 3, does this really need a reason? Any thing with Will ‘the badass’ Smith in it is good for me! That and of course it’s Men in Black.

June ~

Jack the Giant Killer ~ ‘A modern day fairy tale in which the long-standing peace between men and giants is threatened, as a young farmer leads an expedition in to the giants’ kingdom in hopes of rescuing a kidnapped princess.’

Reason: Don’t panic, it’s not Disney! A brilliant twist on a less used fairy tale, this film looks like an highly enjoyable take on Jack and his famous beans. The trailer looks amazing and we can’t wait. Think more Brothers Grimm than Disney.

That’s it for part 1! Check in the next few days for part two of this list along with the addition of our ‘editor choice’ as well. Till next time here is a question.

What films are you looking forward too this year?
