Volunteering Opportunities Portsmouth Libraries

Did you know that Portsmouth Libraries have openings for volunteering over the summer for young people. If you want to learn more please read the following with how to get on board!

Public Libraries get very busy in the summer holidays, dealing with all the children who sign-up for the Summer Reading Challenge. Last year 760,000 children took part throughout the UK.

The 2011 Challenge is called Circus Stars and Portsmouth Library staff need young people (aged 12-25) to help enrol the children in the Challenge and support them throughout the summer (from Saturday 23 July to Saturday 3 September). You will be talking to children (mainly aged 4-11) about their books; handing out rewards and incentives; helping them share ideas on next books to read; and helping with displays and activities in the library.

All Portsmouth Libraries will be running Circus Stars activities involving children and families. You will be supported by library staff and given training at the library. You can choose how many hours you do and when you want to come in (minimum 10 hours over the summer).

It is a requirement for all our Summer Reading Challenge Volunteers to have an Enhanced CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check.
Closing date for applications Friday 17th June 2011.
